Patriarch Beshara Raï expressed his hope during Sunday’s sermon that politicians obstructing the election of a president would listen to the voice of God and make the right decision to save the country. He called on politicians one by one to bear the responsibility for the country's ruin and its institutions, noting that by making a courageous decision, they would realize their mistake against the people. He added, "Let us pray for the repentance of political leaders for hindering the election of a president for ill intentions in their hearts." Regarding the events at the Olympic Games, he said, "The despicable scene, which is anti-Christ that emerged at the Olympic Games, is a sign of hatred towards Christ, and we urge our faithful children to pray for atonement." Raï expressed regret over the decision to move UNESCO’s office from Beirut to Amman and mentioned that he learned the decision has been suspended, hoping for a reversal of that decision.
