An 84-year-old woman from Durango, Mexico, astonished paramedics when they discovered that the abdominal pain she was complaining about was actually a mummified fetus that had been in her womb for more than four decades. According to the "Daily Star," she visited a public health clinic due to her stomach pain, where it was revealed that she was carrying a fetus that had not been born for 40 years.
Doctors believe that the fetus may have calcified in an extremely rare occurrence known as "fetus in fetu" or calcified fetus. This tragic condition arises when the fetus dies during pregnancy but is too large for the body to absorb, leading to calcification as a protective response to dead tissue. Paramedics suspect that the child died and became mummified around the fortieth week of pregnancy after growth stopped. Reports suggest that it is unlikely the mother received proper prenatal care around 40 years ago.
