The Palestinian presidency responded to statements made by Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, in which he congratulated Hamas on the attack of October 7, 2023, and deemed it "timely." The Palestinian presidency stated in a declaration that "the Palestinian people have been fighting and struggling for 100 years, and they do not need wars that do not serve their aspirations for freedom and independence," according to the Palestinian news agency (Wafa).
The Palestinian presidency held that "these statements clearly announce a goal of sacrificing Palestinian blood and that of thousands of children, women, and elders, and destroying Palestinian land, which will not lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital." The statement from the Palestinian presidency was a "response" to Khamenei's remarks, in which he said that this war (in Gaza) has complicated matters at a sensitive moment when the enemy was seeking to implement a scheme to control the region, and that it was necessary for the region, with a warning that everyone should not pin hopes on a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, according to Wafa. Khamenei also stated that "the attack on October 7 dealt a 'devastating blow' to Israel and put it 'on a path that will lead to its disappearance,'" as reported by the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
