The Minister of Economy and Trade in the caretaker government, Amin Salam, continued his visit to Washington, where he visited the headquarters of the World Bank. He discussed with the Executive Director of the bank, Mansour Al-Shamali, joint projects, particularly those related to food security for the Lebanese people. The discussions also covered the bank's work program in Lebanon, particularly the completion of approval and signing procedures for the two agreements that the World Bank has ratified, which are: 1- The second phase of the emergency project to support the social safety net in Lebanon, valued at $300 million to assist the most impoverished families. The World Bank approved the project on May 26, 2023. 2- The project for green agricultural and food transformation towards economic recovery in Lebanon, valued at $200 million, which was approved by the World Bank on June 28, 2023. During the meeting, it was reiterated that "there is a need to expedite the approval of the required reform laws to help Lebanon initiate its economic recovery path."
