Tori Hask defeated her fellow American and world record holder Gretchen Walsh to win the gold medal in the women's 100 meter butterfly at the Paris Olympics on Sunday. The 2022 world champion completed the distance in 55.59 seconds, securing the first individual gold for an American swimmer in the 2024 Games, while Walsh took the silver medal with a time of 55.63 seconds. Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufi earned the bronze medal. Hask's victory continues a streak of races that have not seen a repeat winner since they began in 1956. Canadian Maggie Mac Neil finished in fifth place.
