The Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported that the American mediator in the maritime border demarcation talks between Lebanon and Israel, Amos Hochstein, is indeed attempting to reduce tensions between Beirut and Tel Aviv. In a recent report, the newspaper noted that Hochstein has not yet visited Tel Aviv after his stay in Beirut over the past few days, explaining that Israel requires Hezbollah to cease its provocations at the border between Lebanon and Israel as a condition for any mediation attempt.
The report highlighted that Hezbollah is currently deploying approximately 1,000 fighters from the "Radwan" unit along the southern border, revealing that Israelis are increasingly concerned about the rising friction between the party and the Israeli army. It added, "In Jerusalem, there are those who see similarities between the situation in 2006, which witnessed the July war between Lebanon and Israel, and the current situation, raising fears of war and military conflict."
Meanwhile, Israeli analyst Ehud Yaari noted that Hezbollah is very cautious in executing any military operations against the Israeli army, pointing out that the party is currently "flexing its muscles in front of its audience, amidst careful scrutiny." According to the Israeli newspaper "Maariv," Yaari mentioned that the party's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah has specific desires related to the land border demarcation talks, stating: "Nasrallah wants, for example, the Naqoura tunnel located at the border between Lebanon and Israel, and he also wants the highest hill above that tunnel."
