Algerian boxer Iman Khalif continues to stir controversy in the sports world, fueled by accusations that she is actually a "man" competing in a women's Olympic event, which some deem unfair. The Algerian boxer sparked debate days ago after her victory over Italian Angela Carini, who withdrew, stating that she had "never been hit like that in her life." Carini's withdrawal brought Iman Khalif into the global spotlight, leading to fierce criticism directed at her, including remarks from billionaire Elon Musk and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
However, on Friday, Italian boxer Angela Carini issued an apology, acknowledging that her emotions got the best of her following her loss to Khalif in the Olympic boxing match. Carini expressed regret for not shaking hands with the victorious Khalif after her withdrawal just 46 seconds into the bout at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She told the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, "This was not something I intended to do." She added, "In fact, I want to apologize to her and to everyone. I was angry that the Olympic match I participated in turned to smoke. I have nothing against Khalif. In fact, if I meet her again, I will embrace her."
