"Ain al-Hilweh Camp": Calm amid Clashes and Attempts to Establish a Ceasefire

The intensity of clashes in Ain al-Hilweh camp has reduced this evening, tallying about 10 dead and 100 injured over the past six days. A meeting between "Fatah" and "Hamas" is taking place at the Palestinian Embassy to discuss developments in the camp and to confirm the ceasefire. Clashes renewed during the day between armed members of "Fatah" and those from "Islamist extremists," particularly around the Hattin, Baraksat, and Ras al-Ahmar areas, with the sound of a rocket shell being heard.

Security forces have urged citizens not to use the Sidon-South highway due to stray bullets and shells. "Fatah" has announced that its members are again committed to the ceasefire after thwarting an attack in the al-Tiri neighborhood, resulting in injuries, and that they will continue to deal with any terrorist group identified. In a statement, they noted that clashes resumed this afternoon on the al-Tiri, Tawari’, Ras al-Ahmar, and al-Safsaf axis using machine guns and rocket fire, leading to stray bullets and rockets impacting the outskirts of Sidon, which caused a collapse of the ceasefire agreement that had led to cautious calm in the camp in the morning until the afternoon, with some violations.

"Fatah" indicated that "Azzam al-Ahmad, member of the Executive and Central Committees of the Palestine Liberation Organization and in charge of the Lebanese arena, has arrived in Beirut and is conducting a series of meetings with Palestinian and Lebanese forces to discuss the current situation in Ain al-Hilweh and reach an agreement to solidify the ceasefire and the necessity to hand over the killers of Brigadier General Abu Ashraf al-Aramoushi and his companions, as agreed upon by the Palestinian forces in the meeting held at the General Directorate of General Security."
