Deryan: The Security of Palestinian Camps is Linked to the Security of Lebanon

The Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, emphasized that "the security of Palestinian camps in Lebanon is part of the security of Lebanon, and fighting among Palestinians should not occur. The Dar al-Fatwa is pained by what is happening in the clashes in Ain al-Hilweh camp, leading to deaths and injuries." During his meeting with Acting Director General of General Security, Major General Elias Beisseri, Deryan called for "unity, directing the rifle towards the occupier of the land of Palestine and for its liberation," urging Palestinian factions to "coordinate with the relevant Lebanese authorities to maintain security and stability in the Lebanese arena, especially in the Palestinian camps."

Deryan stressed the "role of the Lebanese state in establishing sovereignty, security, and stability across all Lebanese areas," and praised "the efforts made by Major General Beisseri to stop the fighting among the children of the same cause." Major General Beisseri informed Mufti Deryan about the efforts and initiatives he undertook to halt the fighting in Ain al-Hilweh camp, confirming that "communications and consultations are ongoing to solidify the ceasefire, regardless of the reasons, in mercy for the citizens and to preserve their lives."

"National Moderation"

Mufti Deryan welcomed a delegation from the "National Moderation Bloc" at Dar al-Fatwa. After the meeting, MP Ahmed al-Khair spoke on behalf of the delegation, saying: "We were honored to visit His Eminence to congratulate him and to express our blessings for the renewed trust placed in him by the Higher Islamic Council. We congratulated ourselves and all Lebanese on this step, reaffirming the importance of His Eminence's presence in this difficult and sensitive phase of Lebanon's history."

The bloc asserted, "We are in urgent need of spiritual, national, and Islamic leadership like that of Mufti Deryan—leadership that works for the common good, leadership that seeks to unite the community and gather Muslims as an inseparable part of unifying all Lebanese." He noted that Dar al-Fatwa "is at the forefront of those committed to and defending the Taif Agreement, which calls for parity among Lebanese and prioritizes Lebanese issues over personal and private matters. This institution will always advocate for dialogue and communication among the Lebanese and will remain the first line of defense for Lebanon and the interests of the Lebanese."

Muhammad Al-Masri

Deryan also met with the Director General of the Ministry of Justice, Judge Muhammad Al-Masri, where they discussed general conditions, judicial affairs, and the latest developments in Lebanon.
