South Korea: North Korea Launched Balloons Carrying Waste

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea has once again sent balloons carrying waste towards the south, just three days after a similar operation. The Joint Chiefs stated today, Sunday, that the balloons appear to be heading towards the northern part of Gyeonggi Province surrounding the capital, Seoul, and advised people not to touch these objects and to notify nearby military authorities or police. Since late May, North Korea has sent over 2,000 balloons carrying trash to the south, in response to activists sending anti-Pyongyang leaflets from the south to the north. South Korea resumed propaganda broadcasts via loudspeakers towards the north on Thursday in response to North Korea's repeated launches of trash-filled balloons. Previously, the Joint Chiefs of Staff clarified that they would continue the propaganda broadcasts, warning of taking stronger actions, such as expanding the broadcasts into a widespread campaign, in the event of further provocations.
