A meeting took place in the Finance and Budget Committee hall in Parliament, attended by its chair, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, and the chair of the Administration and Justice Committee, MP George Adwan, along with the IMF delegation led by Ernesto Ramirez. Following the meeting, Kanaan noted that "we presented everything, especially the central issue that everyone is avoiding, concerning the deposits." He emphasized that "solutions must be put in place regarding the deposits, and the act of selling positions to the international community to gain its approval is not our responsibility. To the caretaker Prime Minister, we say that the law for restructuring banks has not yet reached the Parliament and is being discussed between the government and the IMF." He clarified that "a neutral audit of the banks' and the state's assets has not taken place thus far, to determine what they have and how to return the deposits to the people," considering that "the equation is clear; the state and the banks are responsible, and an audit of the assets is mandatory. Government plans should be implemented practically, not just to shift responsibilities." He stressed that "the first question any presidential candidate should be asked is: What will you do about the deposits? And how do you propose to work on recovering them?"
For his part, Adwan stated: "The IMF's approach requires drawing a line between the past and today, which we do not accept. Our approach is based on the idea of determining responsibilities, restructuring debts, and bearing losses." He considered that "it is not possible to address the future without holding accountable and punishing all who made mistakes in the past, and today's meeting was foundational for this."
