After Calls for Investigation: Al-Halabi States He Will Comply If It Is Constitutional

Minister of Education and Higher Education in the caretaker government, Abbas Al-Halabi, highlighted the news regarding the summons of a number of MPs to the Minister of Education for verification of matters pertaining to his ministry and administration. He pointed out that "this process is subject to the Constitution, law, and the internal regulations of the parliamentary council," confirming that it "has a mechanism that passes through the council's office and via the presidency of the parliamentary council." He added that it is up to the presidency of the council to determine the seriousness of the request and whether the conditions for summons are met.

In a statement, he revealed that "the ministry has not been notified of anything to date from the parliamentary council regarding this matter." He emphasized that "any call that follows this legal mechanism, he is ready to respond to," considering that the "information mentioned in the published news indicates a lack of understanding of the law governing this relationship."

Al-Halabi noted that "the General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education has sent the minister a detailed response regarding the topics raised in the media, and the minister will send it in accordance with the proper procedures." He also expressed his "great hope for the results that may emerge from the workshop organized by the parliamentary education committee chaired by MP Hassan Murad, at the parliament next Monday under the auspices of President Nabih Berri," which will extend over three days with the comprehensive participation of all departments in the Ministry of Education and its affiliated institutions, including public education, vocational and technical education, higher education, the educational center for research and development, and the Lebanese University.

He underlined "the importance of cooperation and intensive communication with the parliamentary council under the presidency of President Nabih Berri," noting that "the meeting with the education committee held last Thursday, which discussed the decision to organize the teaching of the master's certificate, witnessed responsible and in-depth discussions on the subject, which bodes well for a future of support and effective partnership between the ministry and the parliamentary education committee." He stated that this cooperation would provide constitutional support for education and expedite the enactment of supportive legislation and recommendations for education, despite the extremely difficult circumstances the country is experiencing.

Al-Halabi considered that "news that deliberately seeks to undermine education and the efforts made to continue education and achieve the new curricula workshop will only renew the determination of the dedicated to serve the interests of future generations and Lebanon's future, which relies on science and distinguished human resources."
