Countries Supporting Libya to Face

Libya has requested international assistance after a devastating flood resulted in thousands of deaths, with many more unaccounted for and tens of thousands displaced. Here are some of the aid sent or being prepared by various countries:

* **Qatar**

At least two planes carrying humanitarian aid from Qatar landed at Benina International Airport in Benghazi early Wednesday morning. The aid included equipment for a field hospital, water pumps, tents, and blankets.

* **Turkey**

The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that the country would send three planes to transport a rescue team and humanitarian aid. The rescue team will consist of 168 individuals, two search and rescue vehicles, and two rescue boats.

* **Italy**

Italy announced on Tuesday that a team including firefighters and civil protection officials is departing for Libya. The Defense Ministry stated on Wednesday that two military planes would head to Libya with additional firefighters and supplies. The naval vessel San Giorgio has also been dispatched for logistical support. It added that a second boat may be sent to provide more supplies and two helicopters for search and rescue operations. The Italian Red Cross sent aid that included health facilities, water purification devices, generators, and 1,500 body bags.

* **United Arab Emirates**

The UAE sent two aid planes carrying 150 tons of food supplies and urgent medical relief.

* **Egypt**

State television reported that Egypt will send a Mistral-class ship, which will serve as a field hospital and set up tents for those who have lost their homes.

* **Jordan**

Jordan dispatched an aid plane carrying relief supplies, including tents, blankets, and food.

* **Tunisia**

Tunisia sent aid and a civil protection team specialized in search and rescue, which includes four trained dogs, medical personnel, monitoring equipment, a drone to locate victims, and a field hospital.

* **Kuwait**

Kuwait sent an aid plane carrying 40 tons of medical supplies, relief materials, and food.

* **Algeria**

Algeria will send eight planes carrying food supplies, medical aid, clothing, and tents.

* **United Nations**

The UN stated that it is working with its partners to deliver humanitarian aid to those in affected areas. Emergency teams are being mobilized to provide assistance on the ground. The World Food Program and its local partner, the Libyan Relief Authority, have begun distributing food to more than five thousand families displaced by the floods.

* **European Union**

The EU is activating its civil protection mechanism to assist Libya on Wednesday. The bloc stated that Germany, Romania, and Finland provided tents, field beds, blankets, 80 generators, food, and water tanks. The EU will release €500,000 (approximately $536,000) as an initial payment to fund humanitarian needs.

* **United States**

President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that the United States would send emergency funds to relief organizations and coordinate with Libyan authorities and the United Nations for additional support.

* **France**

France announced on Tuesday that it would send a field hospital.

* **Spain**

Firefighters from several Spanish regions are heading to Libya, some carrying boxes with electrical equipment including generators. A spokesperson for the NGO Accion Norte in the Basque region told Reuters that eight firefighters, four trained dogs, a doctor, and a translator are on their way to Derna with a team from the Valencia-based NGO Pompiers en Acción. The spokesperson said, "We are fully self-sufficient and carrying specialized equipment for rescue from collapsed structures and water rescue."
