Kawkab Marrakechi Crowned Arab Basketball Champions for the First Time

Kawkab Marrakechi was crowned the champion of the Arab Women's Basketball Clubs Championship for the first time in its 24th edition after achieving a significant victory over the Algerian team Kosidar with a 20-point margin, ending the game with a score of 71-51. The home team faced no challenges in securing the title, overcoming the shock of the violent earthquake that struck their sister Morocco just days earlier, earning everyone's respect by continuing their championship journey despite all the difficult circumstances and the repercussions of the earthquake.

Kawkab Marrakechi successfully managed the game, delivering a decisive blow in the first half, which ended with a 21-point lead (44-23), complicating matters for Kosidar in the second half, despite the latter tying in the third quarter (15-15) and taking the lead in the final quarter (13-12). Notably, Kawkab scored 37 points, accounting for more than half of their score, thanks to their professionals, Jones Alex with 20 points and Bertini Jones with 17. They also hit 7 three-pointers out of 21 attempts from beyond the arc, compared to just one three-pointer for the Algerian team from three attempts.

Following the match, Lieutenant General Ismail Al-Qarqaoui, president of the Arab and UAE basketball federations, presented the championship trophy to Huda Bachar, the captain of Kawkab, and awarded gold medals to the players alongside Mustafa Ourash, the president of the Moroccan Royal Basketball Federation. Meanwhile, Dr. Magdy Abu Freikha, the vice president of the Arab federation, awarded silver medals to the Kosidar players, while the bronze medals went to the Somali team, Jeft Star, after the Kuwaiti team withdrew. The Secretary-General of the Arab Federation, Colonel Abdullah Shalabi, presented medals to the tournament referees.

Regarding the tournament stars, Kawkab player Melika Kotari was awarded the title of Best Player, while Lebanese professional player Rebecca Akl from the Kosidar team won the Best Playmaker award, and Yasmin Makhloufi, also from Kosidar, received the Three-Point Shooting award.
