New Developments in the Case of Jordanian Pilgrims

The case of Jordanian pilgrims who died while performing the Hajj rituals continues to dominate public discourse in Jordan, as authorities have arrested several suspects involved in facilitating the travel of Jordanians to perform Hajj outside the official Jordanian mission affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

Authorities have initiated investigations into the circumstances and details surrounding their travel to perform Hajj outside the official mission, which resulted in the deaths of some pilgrims and the disappearance of others, according to government spokesperson Mohannad Mbaydeen. He clarified that the missing individuals were located thanks to the significant efforts made by the Jordanian consular staff in Saudi Arabia, the official Hajj mission, and the Operations Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Amman.

Additionally, Mbaydeen stated that these efforts and investigations led to the conclusion that some of these citizens were misled by certain agencies. He noted that security forces have issued arrest warrants for several suspects, with some already detained, emphasizing that investigations are ongoing.

Moreover, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the relevant Saudi authorities have commenced burial procedures for the deceased pilgrims, including washing the bodies, shrouding them, and performing prayers over them. It is worth mentioning that 91 Jordanian pilgrims have been found among the 107 registered as missing, according to the database prepared by the consulate.
