The General Directorate of Civil Defense announced in a statement that "Civil Defense personnel are currently working, supported by equipment from multiple centers, to extinguish the fires that broke out in vast areas of dry grass near the Tripoli refinery." It stated: "Tremendous efforts are being made to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to the oil tanks, but the increasing strength of the wind hinders the operations and contributes to the rapid spread of the fire."
