The Moscow branch of the Russian Investigative Committee announced today, Wednesday, the detention of an American citizen suspected of "using violence against representatives of the authorities." The statement read: "A criminal case has been initiated for committing the crime stipulated in part one of Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code (using violence against a representative of the authorities)... Investigative procedures are being carried out against the accused, and an indictment will be filed against him soon."
According to the investigation, on the night of August 12, an American citizen was brought to the police station due to a public order violation, during which the man refused to provide identification documents and subsequently assaulted a police officer.
In detail, the "Novosti" agency reported from a security source that the American, Joseph Tagger, initiated a dispute at the "Radisson" hotel by refusing to provide documents regarding his previous residence. This led to his being taken to a police station, where he physically assaulted one of the officers.
