Before Qablan to Patriarch Raï: The Issue in Lebanon is that Some Christians Do Not Want a Christian President

The Distinguished Jaafari Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qablan stated in a statement: "Because the scale of the American assault threatens the existence of Lebanon, and because Christ and Muhammad desire only the truth, I say to our partner in the homeland, His Beatitude Patriarch Raï: The issue in Lebanon is that some Christians do not want a Christian president, and what we have been living since October 2019 is a devastating American invasion with various facades. At the moment of invasion and the battles of destiny, the country needs all its inhabitants, and solidarity, dialogue, and unity are a necessary national rescue. Hence, we say that the political rupture violates the Constitution and the law, destroys the country, and plays into the hands of Washington and its regional international coalition that wants the head of Lebanon. It is no secret that Lebanon is undergoing the worst systematic war, and the organized storm led by Washington causes the worst disaster affecting the state, its project, and its people, aiming to destroy the pillars of Lebanon's existence, and sadly, there are those inside who share Washington's war and those destructive facades. There is no neutrality in this war because Lebanon is under invasion."

He continued: "Today, the country is vulnerable to those who deny the reality that Lebanon is experiencing a storm confrontation led by Washington and its regional international coalition, and the law and Constitution suffer from Washington's storm and some of their partnership, not from those who have fought the fiercest national wars to restore the Constitution, the country, and institutions, and who now call for national solidarity and rescue dialogue. The problem is not with the oppression of evildoers but with the silence of the righteous. The influential party that practices tyranny and violates the Constitution is only hindering the dialogue for rescue despite the fierceness of the war that is crushing the country."

He added: "It is required to condemn the cancer of the rupture, not to condemn those whose history is liberation, victory, and patriotism and sacrifices for Lebanon, and to escape from fees and taxes resulting from the siege led by Washington, which affects the state and paralyzes its capabilities. No area or sect should escape taxation; everyone knows the truth, and there is no surplus power in Lebanon except for some forces that share Washington's project to destroy the state, the country, and national partnership, while others have turned Lebanon's borders into a fortress that no power on earth dares to invade. What is required from the church as well as the mosque is to cry out about what Lebanon is facing from Washington and its invading coalition; Lebanon, its people, and its state should not be left as prey to the American invasion of Lebanon."

He continued: "Here, I say to His Beatitude, that dialogue and solidarity equal saving Lebanon and preventing many disasters, as they carry a national flavor because they are the greatest necessities of Lebanon in this fateful battle. At the moment of destiny, we need a president that matches the disaster taking the soul of the country. Therefore, the Lebanese Constitution provides a constitutional quorum for electing a president, in addition to the discretionary power of the Speaker of the House, in consideration of the higher interests of the country at the presidential level."

He pointed out that "Lebanon today is at the heart of a fateful war, and the rupture while Lebanon is undergoing the worst American invasion equals treason. The party that is beaten every time is the one that defeated Israel and restored Lebanon, and still fortifies its walls with blood and victories. If it weren't for the historical legacy of the party, the movement, and the other factions, everyone would be speaking Hebrew and suffering from the subjugation of Zionism. What is required is to speak the truth and shout it out as Christ and Muhammad did, and to rise up for the righteous grievance to practice the worship of confronting tyrants, especially the mercenaries of evil and the pawns of the international game. Therefore, the solution lies in the rescue dialogue because the country is burning and the international game wants to take down Lebanon. Political surrender means the end of Lebanon, and the practice of virtue begins in the church and mosque. Let us shout together and name the oppressor and what Lebanon is facing from Washington and its coalition; otherwise, sectarianism will burn the homeland of the forefathers, and anyone who gambles will burn the country, and anyone who covets what they had in the time of the Zionist invasion is committing suicide. What we want is Lebanon in its complete partnership, with Christianity being the crown jewel in this partnership, and the principle of a single body necessitates rescue dialogue, not the rupture that serves the invading enemy. It is required of those of virtue to expose the rupture, not to punish those who call for solidarity and rescue dialogue."

Qablan concluded: "The issue is not one of politics and presidency as much as it is an issue of homeland; Lebanon is a great homeland that deserves to be sacrificed for."
