The Palestinian Prisoners' Club stated today, Thursday, that "Israel arrested 20 Palestinians from various areas in the West Bank last night and this morning, including Aziz Dweik, the former head of the Palestinian Legislative Council." The statement added that "Israel re-arrested Dweik (76 years old) early this morning from his home in Hebron after just six days of his release."
The club explained that "Dweik spent eight months in administrative detention at the Negev prison, which is known as one of the most notorious prisons that has witnessed torture and abuse since the beginning of the genocide." No statement has been issued by the relevant Israeli authorities regarding the reason for Dweik's re-arrest.
The club mentioned that "the elderly detainee Dweik, who faced a brutal arrest following incitement, suffers from multiple chronic health issues and requires intensive medical care." It was noted that "since the start of the genocide, the occupation has arrested more than 9,300 citizens from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, alongside thousands from Gaza, and hundreds from Palestinians in the occupied territories of 1948, accompanied by numerous crimes and serious violations."
The club reiterated its call for all international human rights organizations to restore their role and fulfill their responsibilities in light of "the unprecedented density of crimes, including those committed by the occupation against prisoners and detainees as a facet of the ongoing genocide against our people in Gaza, and the comprehensive aggression against all members of our people across Palestine."
