Lebanese-French Coordination Committee to Colonna: Neutralizing Lebanon

The Lebanese-French Coordination Committee (CCLF) has urged French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna in a letter to "use all diplomatic efforts to pressure Iran to refrain from pushing Hezbollah to engage in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, thus neutralizing Lebanon from devastating risks." This is because "avoiding security deterioration constitutes a shared French-Lebanese interest." The statement was issued in Paris and Beirut simultaneously, stating: "In light of the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel, and based on our sovereign interest in neutralizing Lebanon from what is happening, the Lebanese-French Coordination Committee sent a letter to Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, saying: 'In the face of the outbreak of war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement in Gaza, we, the member organizations of the Lebanese-French Coordination Committee (CCLF), look to France to exert all its diplomatic efforts to pressure Iran to dissuade it from pushing Hezbollah to participate in this war, thus neutralizing Lebanon from destructive risks.'"

The committee added: "Any deterioration on the Lebanese-Israeli border could exacerbate the volatile situation in the region, endanger UNIFIL soldiers, and generate regional disruptions that might exceed the capacity of international law to contain. Preventing security deterioration constitutes a shared French-Lebanese interest."

The committee further stated in its letter: "With you, we seek initiatives that help us implement United Nations Security Council resolutions, especially 1701, 1680, and 1559, freeing us from the anti-democratic Syria-Iran axis that is detrimental to the Lebanese economy and regional peace, as well as contradicting the rule of law. The failure to establish and monitor the maritime and land borders between Lebanon and both Syria and Israel generates recurring wars, encourages massive migration, and permits drug trafficking and money laundering."
