The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received the Minister of Interior and Municipalities of the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, along with his accompanying delegation, at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad. During the meeting, the participation of friendly and brotherly countries in the "Second International Baghdad Conference on Drug Control" was discussed. The President emphasized the importance of coordination and joint cooperation to confront the drug epidemic that threatens the security and stability of nations, as well as the future of their children.
The Iraqi President highlighted the deep historical relations that connect the two brotherly countries, affirming Iraq's support for Lebanon in various fields. He stressed the need to unify efforts in addressing the challenges surrounding the region and enhancing cooperation and coordination among countries on issues of shared interest, in order to achieve their interests and aspirations for establishing security, stability, and peace.
He also addressed the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the necessity of unifying the international stance and striving to stop the aggression faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza. He supported the efforts being made to improve humanitarian conditions, halt economic collapse, and provide essential services to civilians, pointing out the need for a just solution to the Palestinian issue to support stability in the region as a whole.
For his part, Mawlawi stressed the importance of electing a president who can lead the state-building process, noting the necessity of implementing international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, which contributes to achieving stability in the country. He expressed gratitude for Iraq's positions towards Lebanon and its continuous support in all fields, as well as for hosting the Second International Conference on Drug Control in Baghdad, showing a keen desire to enhance mutual cooperation in security aspects for the benefit of both brotherly countries.
