Egyptian Olympic Committee Reveals Reason for Boxer Yumna Ayad's Weight Gain

The Egyptian Olympic Committee issued an official statement today, Sunday, following an investigation into the exclusion of boxer Yumna Ayad from participating in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Yumna Ayad was unable to compete against Uzbek fighter Nigina Oktamova in the Round of 32 in the 54 kg weight category due to being over the required weight limit.

The Egyptian Olympic Committee confirmed that they reviewed the medical report concerning the boxer, stating, "Yumna Ayad faced weight gain upon her arrival in Paris due to the circumstances and conditions of the travel day and flight. She was able to achieve the required weight after following a special program in the days leading up to the competition after her arrival."

The statement continued: "She was then surprised by physiological and hormonal changes, and we refrain from mentioning details in accordance with our Egyptian customs and traditions and to protect the rights and mental well-being of the athlete." It also noted that there is a detailed report from the medical committee confirming that there was no responsibility attributed to the athlete, coaching staff, or administrative team.

The statement highlighted Yumna Ayad's achievements that led to her qualification for the Paris Olympic Games as the top African contender in her category.
