Britain Supports Israel by Deploying Its Military in the Eastern Mediterranean

The office of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced today, Thursday, that London will deploy two Royal Navy ships, helicopters, and surveillance aircraft to the Eastern Mediterranean, alongside reconnaissance aircraft from the Royal Air Force, to assist partners in detecting emerging threats to regional security, in support of Israel and to enhance regional stability, according to the statement.

A spokesperson for the British government noted that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday evening to reaffirm the UK's support for Israel following the Hamas attack. The two leaders discussed Israel's response to Hamas in Gaza, and Sunak confirmed that Britain has permitted a substantial support package to the region, which includes Royal Air Force surveillance aircraft, two Royal Navy ships, and three Merlin helicopters.

The Times reported today that Britain will send two Royal Navy ships to the Eastern Mediterranean and will begin aerial surveillance and reconnaissance missions over Israel as a demonstration of military support aimed at reassuring it.
