One of Egypt's Most Famous Doctors Sparks Controversy with Video

In recent hours, Egyptian circles have been abuzz with a video that went viral on social media, featuring Dr. Hossam Mowafi, a professor of critical care medicine at Qasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine, kissing the hand of businessman Mohamed Abou El-Enein. The clip was taken during the wedding ceremony of Dr. Hossam Mowafi's daughter, Mariam, last week, attended by Dr. Mohamed Osama El-Khasht, president of Cairo University, Sheikh Khaled El-Gendy, Saad El-Hilali, businessman Mohamed Abou El-Enein, and others.

Criticism poured in regarding the moment that showed Mowafi kissing the businessman’s hand, especially after it spread widely. "I cropped the full moment from the live broadcast; the act was spontaneous. Abou El-Enein was expressing his gratitude towards Dr. Hossam Mowafi, and he probably felt embarrassed due to the excessive thanks, leading him to do so. After Abou El-Enein thanked him, Mowafi reciprocated by kissing his hand as a gesture of appreciation without any ulterior motives," tweeted Ahmed Yhya.

In light of this uproar, Mowafi's family spoke out, confirming that the video was taken out of context. A family source stated that the scene was normal, occurring during a wedding attended by many prominent figures. The source added that Dr. Hossam was in a state of great joy and was happy to share those moments. After a speech by businessman Mohamed Abou El-Enein, in which he expressed his admiration for Dr. Hossam, he kissed his head, leading to Mowafi kissing his hand in appreciation with no other intentions behind the gesture.

It is worth noting that Dr. Hossam Mowafi is a professor of critical care medicine at Qasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine and has a very strong reputation, enjoying widespread fame in Egyptian circles, particularly due to his videos and medical advice that are usually shared.
