A security breach led to an assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump by a young man in his twenties, who shot him in the ear during an incident that shocked the United States on Saturday. Analyzing the area where the Republican candidate was shot while giving a speech to his supporters in Butler, Pennsylvania, British Sky News revealed the presence of a "large tree" that obstructed the view between the attacker and the nearest armed protection units. Two armed units were seen in warehouses behind Trump, but due to the tree, they could not see the shooter, who was on top of another warehouse.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was on the roof of a warehouse about 130 to 140 meters from Trump when he fired several shots at the former president before being shot and killed by Secret Service agents. The incident occurred while Trump was addressing a crowd of supporters at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Secret Service agents immediately escorted the former president out of the rally site while blood streamed down his face, as he was hit by a bullet that penetrated the top of his right ear. During his exit, the Republican presidential candidate raised his fist to the crowd in a defiant gesture.

One person at the scene was killed, and two attendees were severely injured. The FBI later identified the shooter as "Thomas Matthew Crooks (20) from Bethel, Pennsylvania." Security experts familiar with the requirements for safeguarding politicians stated that a "fundamental security failure" occurred, allowing the attacker to get close enough to carry out his assault.
