An elderly woman died due to panic from the earthquake in the city of Salamiyeh, part of Hama province, and 25 others were injured, according to the Syrian official news agency (SANA). The director of the Salamiyeh area, General Khaled Al-Ammarin, stated that the deceased woman was from the village of Raba in the northern countryside of Salamiyeh, resulting from panic amid shattered window glass and the cracking of some buildings, as per SANA. Osama Malhim, the director of Salamiyeh National Hospital, reported to the agency that 25 injuries occurred due to a stampede as people rushed out of their homes at the moment the earthquake struck and noted the presence of individuals suffering from panic and nervous breakdowns, according to SANA. There were reports on social media that the deceased woman was 70 years old, though CNN could not independently verify this information. An earthquake struck east of Hama city just minutes before midnight on Monday, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, according to the Syrian agency.
