According to the "South China Morning Post," Sanxing Transportation in Guangdong Province, China, has refused to hire individuals born in the Year of the Dog according to the Chinese calendar. The company posted a job vacancy for an office worker with a salary ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 yuan (420-550 dollars). The advertisement specifically stated that applications from those born in the Year of the Dog would not be accepted.
An employee of the company explained that their boss was born in the Year of the Dragon, and this zodiac sign, according to traditional Chinese beliefs, does not harmonize well with those born in the Year of the Dog, as the first sign has the element of water while the second has fire.
This issue has gained significant attention on Chinese social media, where the company's employment policy has been deemed discriminatory. The traditional Chinese lunar calendar system is based on a 60-year cycle, which is a combination of the 12 zodiac animals and five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water). The symbol for the year 2024 is the green wood dragon.
