Former head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, expressed his regret via LBCI that in the last war "no one is with us today amid Western bias towards Israel, and there is a war in the south, but its rhythm is calculated and controlled. Hezbollah is aware of the tragedies of the 2006 experience, and the fleets at sea did not come for a picnic." He stated in "A Year on Void": "I have not condemned and will not condemn Hamas; it is part of the Palestinian people, and I do not condemn the Palestinian people. Which movement in the world has not killed civilians in war?" He clarified: "So far, Lebanon has not been dragged into war, but no one knows when the red lines will be crossed," adding that the decision of Hezbollah is Lebanese but there may be influences from outside Lebanon leading to Iran.
He continued: "Two million Palestinians in Gaza are sentenced to death, as if the goal is to kill as many Palestinians as possible before a settlement." He expressed: "For local calculations and out of my concern not to embroil Lebanon, I hope we do not enter the war. The decision to displace Palestinians is an old Zionist-Jewish one, even before Hezbollah had any deterrent." He said to Nasrallah, "I hope Lebanon does not slip into war for the sake of Lebanon and the people of the south." He believes Nasrallah is aware of this suffering, and what is needed is restraint.
He noted that returning to the "two-state solution" may be impossible unless the West stops aiding Israel. He added: "The new rules of engagement do not cancel the truce agreement, and the presence of peacekeeping forces is very positive for the people of the south," directing a message to the Iranian foreign ministry: "Do not involve us in war."
He commented: "The defense strategy and the exclusivity of arms in the hands of the state remain our slogans, and I have not abandoned them, but part of this decision may be Lebanese and part may be Iranian." He mentioned: "After the French minister's visit to Bire and Mikati, the minister stated that no Lebanese area will be safe if war breaks out."
Regarding the Lebanese presidency, he said: "We need to forget about Jihad Azour and Sleiman Frangieh regarding the presidency. Let Bassil and Geagea meet, even in the 'museum,' because there is a danger of the presidency being taken from the Maronites." He pointed out that "Bassil visited me and expressed his fear for Lebanon, suggesting Joseph Aoun to lead the army, but the response came from Wafiq Safa, saying 'we do not want to corner Bassil.'"
