Lebanese Cabinet: Decision-makers Must Halt the Massacres in Gaza Immediately

The General Secretariat of the Cabinet announced that based on the suggestion of Deputy Prime Minister Saadeh Al-Shami and his preparation, and after reviewing by the ministers and receiving the approval of the Prime Minister, a statement was issued entitled "Innocence Slaughtered in Palestine: A Message to the Decision Makers of the World." The statement said: "In a world where indifference has silenced consciences and absolute silence has stripped away humanity, we are witnesses to a horrific genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine unprecedented in modern times. The silence of the global power centers is deafeningly painful. How can any human mind comprehend the terror or fathom the brutality inflicted upon innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon? The shocking images coming from this forsaken corner of the world break hearts and represent a blatant violation of the most basic moral and human values. Yet, despite all this, the decision-makers in the world close their eyes as if these images are merely a mirage. What is happening in Gaza makes us wonder: Is there any shred of humanity left in this world?"

The statement continued: "What symbol of innocence could be higher than that of children, and what brutality is being exercised against them that surpasses all perception or imagination? What is this world waiting for to no longer remain indifferent? What further grotesqueness and crime is anticipated before this situation receives any attention? These children are not victims of their actions; their only guilt is being born in Palestine. This world, which sheds generous tears and mourns the loss of a single innocent life anywhere, how can it remain unmoved by the massacres in Gaza, and how can it pass without the outcry and human response it deserves?"

It noted that "Some countries have always carried the banner of human rights worldwide, and slogans of equality resonate in international forums, but not when it comes to Palestine; there, the violation of human rights and universal human values is merely a matter of opinion. The double standards and the loss of human values constitute a significant moral scandal and a violation of human dignity. Yet, it seems humanity has reached a level where treating these crimes with such levity and indifference has become normal."

The statement deemed that "the world today is called to protect the children of Palestine and defend innocent lives. The compassion in the hearts of those controlling the fate of the world is being tested; the consciences of the decision-makers are at stake. If the shocking images coming from Gaza do not awaken compassion in hearts and call to conscience in souls, then who will?" It continued: "These leaders are capable of halting these massacres but choose otherwise; how do they carry on with their lives as if nothing has happened?"

It added: "Gaza has been described as a large open prison, but today it has turned into an open mass grave, which stands as irrefutable evidence of the depth to which human sentiment has sunk. What words can comfort the grieving mothers who gather the remains of their children? What solace can the world offer to the children and infants who have lost their mothers and fathers and have been left to face the raging waves without a life jacket? What is happening in Gaza as genocide is a stain on the collective conscience of this world."

The Cabinet urged "decision-makers in this world to do whatever is necessary to immediately halt the massacres in order to preserve what remains of innocent lives, and to do their utmost to find a solution that grants the Palestinians their rights and basic needs. The violence and destruction occurring will generate more violence and destruction. World leaders and decision-making centers must find a just solution to the Palestinian issue. Reason and emotion are crying out for attention together; is it not time to heed their call?"
