MP Fouad Mekhzoumi emphasized the importance of ensuring stability and security in Lebanon by neutralizing the country and implementing UN Resolution 1701 in all its provisions, and by avoiding the creation of new equations such as the rules of engagement that would take Lebanon out of the framework of the constitution and international legitimacy decisions.
During a meeting with Lebanese Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan at Dar Al-Fatwa, Mekhzoumi led a delegation from the Beirut Dialogue Forum that included representatives of Beirut families, businessmen, and media personnel. After the meeting, Mekhzoumi stated: "We express our deepest condolences to the families of the innocent children who were martyred yesterday in Ainata, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We affirm the need to unify the Lebanese against the massacres targeting civilians and to neutralize Lebanon, preventing its involvement in any conflicts or wars."
He highlighted the importance of all national and Islamic forces rallying around Dar Al-Fatwa and its leadership, as this institution represents a national reference that reinforces the path of moderation and our commitment to the Lebanese community against blind fanaticism, and to avoid sliding into destructive cheap populism.
Mekhzoumi further stressed the necessity of supporting the Palestinian people and the residents of Gaza, standing by their legitimate demands for liberation from occupation, lifting the injustice against them, breaking the siege on the sector, and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid such as medicine, food, water, and fuel to secure a decent life for our people in Gaza. He requested the Mufti to invite all official and popular political references, from the Prime Minister to the deputies and various social bases, to provide humanitarian support and advocacy for our people in Gaza in all forums, especially international ones, and to pressure the international community to compel Israel to cease fire and ensure the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid.
He continued: "We reaffirmed the forum's position against the war in Gaza and our support for the steadfast Palestinian people facing the Israeli war machine, which the civilians and innocents in the sector are paying the price for. We also emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the implementation of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their state based on the two-state solution as proposed in the Arab Peace Initiative adopted in 2002 in Beirut."
Mekhzoumi reaffirmed their commitment to the Palestinian cause while emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability and security in Lebanon by neutralizing the country and fully applying UN Resolution 1701, and avoiding the creation of new equations like the rules of engagement that would step outside the boundaries of the constitution and international legitimacy.
He concluded: "We condemned the targeting of defenseless civilians and innocent children by Israel in southern Lebanon, affirming that this is a documented crime. We renewed our call to protect Lebanon and the Lebanese from the repercussions of what is happening in the region. We noted that Lebanon is currently experiencing very difficult economic, social, and living conditions, and it is necessary to protect our country and not drag it into conflicts, to ensure Lebanon's neutrality from war, return to the constitution, adhere to the Taif Agreement, and the need for state organization starting with electing a President of the Republic, a fully empowered government, and regularizing the military institution. We called on the Lebanese government to work seriously to provide the financial and logistical means necessary to implement the emergency plan and improve living conditions for citizens during these difficult times. We affirmed the readiness and preparedness of the Mekhzoumi Foundation to stand by our people as they have known us for over 25 years."
