Freezing of 280 Recruitment Offices for Foreign Workers and Rejection of Certain Applications

The Minister of Labor in the caretaker government, Mustafa Bayram, issued two decisions. The first concerns recruitment offices for foreign workers that failed to provide the necessary documentation proving compliance with legal and humanitarian standards. As a result, 280 offices have been frozen until their owners fulfill their obligations, having been granted a legal grace period of six months, which has been extended twice without compliance. This action is part of an effort to organize the status of foreign labor in Lebanon and to protect rights by establishing the rule of law, maintaining Lebanon's reputation, and adhering to international and humanitarian standards that are central to our values, following discussions between the Minister of Labor and his team at the International Labor Organization - Geneva.

The second decision involves rejecting applications for cleaning and porter services in cases where the request exceeds three workers, due to suspicions of human trafficking and attempts to flood the Lebanese market with foreign labor in a chaotic manner. This is intended to ensure that only legally compliant and duly approved documents are submitted while waiting for a comprehensive regulatory decision for this important sector. Interested parties can refer to the Ministry's office to understand the conditions that must be met, failing which their applications will be rejected.
