Portuguese coach José Gomes of Zamalek caused a stir after pushing the referee during the match against Al-Masry on Monday, in the 26th round of the Egyptian Premier League. The incident occurred in the 73rd minute when referee Ahmed El-Ghandour awarded a penalty to Zamalek. Player Ahmed Sayed "Zizo" took the penalty, but his shot hit the crossbar and then the ground. The Zamalek players believed the ball had crossed the goal line when it bounced off the ground, but El-Ghandour did not award anything in favor of the home team.
Gomes was enraged and reacted angrily towards the fourth official, Atef Hussein, before pushing him. After Zamalek lost 1-2 to Al-Masry, Gomes told Egyptian channel "OnTime Sports" that referee Ahmed El-Ghandour "ignored the goal" and stated that the ball "fully crossed the goal line."
Additionally, the "White Knight" team issued a statement via their social media accounts, demanding the suspension of referee El-Ghandour and the VAR official, preventing them from officiating any future matches for the team due to "blatant refereeing violations that altered the result of the match."
