Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, had a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, as reported by the official Saudi Press Agency "SPA" on Sunday morning.
During the call, they discussed the developments in the region and their regional and international ramifications at various levels.
The Saudi Crown Prince emphasized the importance of prioritizing dialogue to de-escalate tensions and highlighted the necessity of making every possible effort to achieve a calm environment that paves the way for diplomatic solutions. These efforts aim to produce positive results to maintain the region's security and stability and prevent the escalation into a wider conflict, which could have regional and international security implications.
The discussion also included reviewing existing areas of cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance them.
In a post on "Truth Social" early Sunday, President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. is ready to confront Iran with levels of military power "not seen since World War II" but noted that Middle Eastern allies have reached a general framework for an agreement to end the conflict with Iran.
He mentioned that he would refrain from ordering new strikes in the five-month-long conflict for the time being.
Trump added that the emerging agreement "will include the immediate and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to the Iranian nuclear threat."
He stated, "Based on this request, I agreed—for the future of the world, as well as to allow Iran to succeed and prosper—to call off the attack, provided a swift deal can be reached."
He also mentioned that Israel agreed to join the U.S. in the commitment to trying to finalize an agreement with Iran that would end the conflict.
