A medical report submitted by the physician of former Lebanese Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh to Public Prosecutor Ahmad Al Haj has raised urgent concerns about a significant deterioration in Salameh’s health following a visit to him in detention.
The report describes a marked decline in Salameh’s physical and psychological state, with the doctor noting unexpected changes. Salameh reportedly appeared in an unprecedented condition, showing communication difficulties and refusing food, drink, and medication, allegedly stating: "Since they mean to get rid of me, I will make it easier for them."
The report highlights concerning blood pressure readings of approximately 175/105, warning that abstaining from treatment could exacerbate health risks, especially given Salameh's pre-existing chronic hypertension.
The doctor also noted that Salameh requires meticulous health surveillance, citing issues with significant oxygen level drops during the night, warranting appropriate medical supervision. Concerns were expressed about the lack of necessary medical equipment at his detention location in Roumieh Prison, prompting a request for his return to Bhanes for detailed monitoring.
The report concluded with an appeal to judicial authorities to take necessary measures to preserve the detainee's health, emphasizing that the request is solely for ensuring essential medical care, irrespective of the judicial proceedings against him.
