A statement was issued by the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division: "On October 3, 2023, a lawyer reported that an unknown individual broke into her office located in the Al-Dawra area and stole more than $100,000 in cash from a safe, as well as jewelry worth over $500,000. Following this, specialized units within the Information Branch were tasked with conducting field and investigative procedures to identify and apprehend the suspect. As a result of investigations and inquiries, the branch was able to determine the identity of the suspect, identified as Y. A. (born in 1986, Lebanese), who has a criminal history related to theft.
On November 9, 2023, after careful observation and surveillance, one of the branch's patrols managed to arrest him in Dhour El Shweir, while he was driving a black Toyota FJ Cruiser. A military pistol with a magazine and 14 live bullets, ten pills of Tramadol, a quantity of hashish, a gold coin, a forged identity card, and three mobile phones were seized. During the investigation, he confessed to the charges against him regarding the theft of money and jewelry from the lawyer's safe, indicating that he sold the stolen jewelry to a person in the Bekaa for $12,000 and 120 million Lebanese pounds, which he spent on drugs and gambling. He also added that he had previously committed two fraudulent thefts from shops in Sin El Fil and Beirut.
The seized gold coin in the possession of the arrested individual was handed over to the claimant, the vehicle was seized legally, and the required legal procedures were taken against him. He and the confiscated items were referred to the relevant judicial authority, in accordance with the directives of the competent judiciary."
