National Meeting of Public Sector Workers: Meeting Government-Released Rights Positively

The National Meeting of Public Sector Workers called on all public sector employees today, Thursday, to meet the rights released by the government positively, temporarily easing the wounds, joining work, fulfilling tasks and responsibilities with dedication, and working diligently to achieve our common goals.

In a statement commenting on the decisions of the Cabinet yesterday, Wednesday, regarding the salaries of employees and retirees, it stated: "After the Cabinet session yesterday, 27/2/2024, and as a result of its resolutions that opened the doors for remedy, and since the Cabinet displayed a pragmatic approach in dealing with the future of public employment, showing a required will to fulfill the state's duties in social protection for the people and employees, although these resolutions did not achieve the demand for fairness in provisions for all components of the public sector—both active employees and civilian and military retirees—we have always called for the unity of financial and social provisions under the title of 'uniting standards.' We hope the government will not miss the opportunity for the temporary nature of the consequences of its decisions and return within three months at most to ensure fairness for all within a bundle of provisions and unified standards, providing salaries and benefits that restore the purchasing power of employees and retirees' salaries to their pre-crisis levels."

It added: "We affirm that the strong individual and collective efforts of public sector employees will enable the nation to overcome current challenges. We also urge you to adopt a positive and optimistic approach toward work and life in general, which contributes to enhancing confidence in our ability to uplift the nation and the community."

Finally, the meeting noted, "the achievements of Minister Ali Hamieh regarding the government's decision to start implementing the Law on the Construction of the Bekaa - Dhahr al-Baydar Tunnel," thanking the Minister of Public Works "for his efforts to revive this vital project, which will provide developmental and social services to our people in Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel, particularly for public sector workers, and alleviate the burden of their commutes from Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel to other governorates and vice versa."
