Russian news agencies reported that officials announced early on Saturday that Russia has imposed anti-terrorism measures in three border areas with Ukraine. The agencies attributed this information to the governors of the regions or the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, stating that these measures will be applied in the Kursk region, where Moscow claims its forces are countering Ukrainian incursions, as well as in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions. The Russian media outlet noted that the measures include potential population evacuations, movement restrictions in specific areas, increased security around sensitive sites, and monitoring of phone calls and other communications.
**U.S. Assistance**
On Friday, the United States announced it would provide an additional $125 million in military assistance to Kyiv, as Ukrainian forces continue their surprise offensive inside Russian territory. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the assistance package underscores "our unwavering commitment to Ukraine as it continues to face Russian aggression." U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken explained that the aid will come from U.S. stockpiles and "includes air defense interceptors, munitions for rocket and artillery systems, multi-role radars, and anti-tank weapons." The United States is the main military supporter of Ukraine and has pledged over $55 billion in weapons, munitions, and other security assistance since Russia launched its military operation in February 2022. The latest announcement of assistance comes as Kyiv forces are conducting a surprise attack in the Kursk region of western Russia, reportedly the largest on Russian territory since the war began.
