Abdullahiyan to Visit Beirut Soon: "The Area of War Has Expanded"

Abdullahiyan to Visit Beirut Soon:

Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahiyan will visit Lebanon in the coming hours. He is scheduled to meet with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. He is also expected to meet with several Lebanese and Palestinian political leaders. Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, posted on X, stating that "the esteemed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Hussein Amir Abdullahiyan, will arrive in Lebanon tomorrow, Wednesday, and his agenda includes discussions and meetings with Lebanese officials on issues of mutual interest." Amani added that this visit reflects Iranian policy and its constructive role in supporting Lebanon's stability and prosperity.

Abdullahiyan stated yesterday in an interview with CBS News in Geneva, "We were not aware of the Hamas operations; it was entirely a Palestinian decision." He emphasized "continuing political support for the resistance against occupation." He added, "From the beginning of this crisis, we said that we do not seek to expand the war. Naturally, the United States has repeatedly stated that it does not seek that either. However, contrary to these statements, we see that America has intensified the war through extensive support for the Israeli entity. [...] We have clearly told America that the White House is now openly and clearly standing alongside the occupying entity, providing it with military weapons, including internationally prohibited arms, from all American military bases in the region, which means that America is publicly involved in the war and genocide in Gaza. In turn, the White House sends us a message that it does not seek to expand the war and tries to send humanitarian aid and stop the war humanely, but until this moment, America has never shown its intention to stop the war; rather, it has intensified the war, and it must bear responsibility for that."

In response to a question about the possible expansion of the war, Abdullahiyan said, "We warned four weeks ago that if the war and genocide in Gaza continued, the expansion of the war would be inevitable. This has now happened in the region, as you see; Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen have entered the war. This indicates that the area has expanded. But how will Iran act? We will make decisions on any issue at an appropriate time for us. Our assessments indicate that the resistance forces in Palestine and the region are capable of determining the fate of this war. Naturally, we continue our political support for the resistance against occupation."
