Saudi Documents Birds in the Kingdom and Warns of Risks They Face

Saudi photographer Nader Fahd Al-Shammari grew up listening to the chirping of desert birds in the Al-Jouf region in northwestern Saudi Arabia. Now, a significant part of his life revolves around these creatures. In addition to sharing his photography work that highlights various types of birds online, Al-Shammari also organizes special tours for like-minded individuals who share his passion.

In an interview with CNN in Arabic, the Saudi photographer said, "I see a great deal of myself in the characteristics and behavior of birds, which keeps me continuously observing and searching for them." He noted that the Kingdom "has not received the necessary documentation" for birds in the past, which has opened the door for many enthusiasts to document various bird species.

He added, "You will find types of birds that you can only see in the north, south, east, and west of Saudi Arabia." According to the official website of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) in 2022, the Kingdom is home to more than 500 species of birds, while the estimated number of migratory bird species exceeds approximately 260.

Al-Shammari takes pride in adding more species of previously unrecorded birds to the Kingdom's records. Through his Instagram page and efforts in documenting birds, the Saudi photographer hopes to contribute to raising environmental awareness to ensure these creatures enjoy a better life.
