Algerian authorities have begun withdrawing women's clothing from the markets, bearing a Chinese trademark specialized in online sales, which causes cancer, asthma, and other diseases. The Directorate of Commerce in the Oran province, in coordination with security agencies, has initiated extensive and comprehensive withdrawal operations for all products from this brand found available for display, marketing, distribution, and sale that have been proven to contain toxic and illegal materials.
These toxic substances can lead to serious illnesses if inhaled, directly contacted, or if they come into contact with the skin. In a preliminary tally, security forces confiscated 139 pieces of various sizes and designs of dresses, woven with fibers that contain a high percentage of harmful chemical substances, being sold at very low prices in one of the commercial centers.
According to Haji Ali Abdel Hakim, the general coordinator for consumer protection in Oran, analyses of samples of the company's clothing confirmed the warnings of those calling for a ban on their purchase, due to the numerous health risks they pose to users and those exposed to the effects of the toxic materials used in their manufacturing.
Abdel Hakim clarified that the issue involves dangerous and illegal chemical compounds known as "formaldehyde," which are originally used in embalming processes, glue production, and other uses unrelated to living cells, and can cause cancer if inhaled or come into contact with the skin.
