The Zamalek Club's board of directors has confirmed that the team will not play the Cairo derby against Al Ahly on Tuesday evening as part of the Egyptian Nile League due to the lack of response to their previous demands directed at the organizers of the tournament.
In a statement, the Zamalek board noted, "The club’s management is well aware that the great Zamalek fans always cherish the moments when the football team plays. They also know that fair competition has been its slogan for over a century, yet coercive circumstances prevent them from doing so in tomorrow’s league match due to the absence of the principle of equal opportunities that football rules and principles establish."
The Zamalek statement continued, "The management is committed to returning to fair football competitions in our league, which we respect and cherish, and we appreciate the efforts of all parties supporting the football industry in Egypt. Indeed, we hoped never to be absent from the fields."
The Zamalek board concluded its statement by saying, "We apologize for this decision, as we have no choice but to make it, and we thank the fans for their understanding and continuous support."
It is noteworthy that the Zamalek administration issued a statement a few days ago confirming that the players would not participate in any matches until all clubs played their postponed games to uphold the principle of equal opportunity. They also called for an investigation into the referees of the match against Al Masry due to various controversial decisions.
