Social affairs researcher Asil Al-Rubaie commented today, Monday, on the phenomenon of Baghdad girls marrying non-Baghdadi individuals or vice versa. In her talk with "Baghdad Today," Al-Rubaie stated that "the phenomenon of Baghdad women marrying non-Baghdadi individuals or Baghdadi men marrying non-Baghdadi women has significantly spread lately, but there is no statistical data on this phenomenon, especially since many residents of other provinces have moved to Baghdad for various reasons, which has led them to marry in Baghdad, whether they are men or women."
She pointed out that "each province certainly has different traditions regarding marriage, and intermarriage among different Iraqi provinces confirms the unity of the Iraqi people without division between province and province. This matter has positively contributed to quelling the flames of discord that are sought to be ignited from time to time among Iraqis."
It is noteworthy that marriage traditions are considered one of the important social aspects in Iraq, and Iraqi families are keen to practice specific rituals based on the customs and traditions they believe in, which differ from one family or province to another.
