The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, announced today, Thursday, a new national occasion named the Day of the Covenant of the Union. He stated in a post on X: "On this day in 1971, the founding father and his fellow rulers signed the Union document and the Constitution of the Emirates, announcing our country's name as the United Arab Emirates in preparation for the union on December 2nd." He added, "A historical day on which they established the Covenant of the Union and its foundations." Sheikh Mohamed clarified: "Today we announce July 18 as a national occasion called the Day of the Covenant of the Union, where we celebrate our country's history and the blessed steps in establishing the union."
