Hochstein: The U.S. Has Always Wanted to See Normalization Between Saudi Arabia and Israel

U.S. energy envoy Amos Hochstein said on Thursday that his country has always wanted to see normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel. He added that he does not believe one should give up hope and that the goal remains the same, noting that the United States remains committed to regional integration, but it should be broader than just Saudi Arabia-Israel. Hochstein, speaking at an event in the UAE, stated, "I believe not every road is a straight path, and sometimes it moves in different directions first. But the goal remains the same." He continued, "I don't think we are changing our directions, and I don't believe this conflict should do that. In fact, this conflict should remind us that if we do not move toward regional integration and peace and security - that is the alternative." The United States and its ally Israel oppose a ceasefire in Gaza as they believe it would only benefit Hamas. Instead, Washington supports a temporary truce to protect civilians and allow the release of hostages taken by Hamas in the October 7 attack.
