Jumblatt: Settlement Comes from Agreement Among Major Parties

Former president of the Progressive Socialist Party, former MP Walid Jumblatt, and the Sheikh of the Druze community, Sami Abi Al-Muna, visited Sheikh Ziad Al-Fattayri in Jdeideh Al-Chouf. Jumblatt stated in his speech: "It is true that our concern is the community, but the community is not an island; we are part of this nation." He added, "This nation will remain, and to ensure its continuity, we cannot escape what my father stated in one of his old remarks, that there is nothing more beautiful than a settlement... the beauty of a settlement." Jumblatt continued: "In my opinion, a settlement is achieved through agreement among the major parties and electing a president for the republic; the absence of a president weakens the nation, while the presence of a president strengthens it." He added: "I took on politics 47 years ago after the assassination of Kamal Jumblatt, and I have been saying, and I still say after 47 years, that we are at the beginning of the road. The most important thing is to maintain the Arab national line, adhere to the land, coexist, and dialogue with all parties." He said: "The problem is that in the past there were no social media sites; this is not communication but rather social destruction." He concluded: "We must engage in calm dialogue, and we are people of reason."
