Preserving Green Spaces: 200 Trees Planted in Beirut Forest

Total Energies in Lebanon, in collaboration with the Cedars Care Association, has planted 200 Leyland trees covering an area of 72 square meters in the Beirut Forest. This initiative underscores Total Energies' commitment to the community and the environment, as the company participates in creating green spaces accessible to all residents of Beirut in the heart of the city. The tree planting event was attended by Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, Mr. Pierre Baaklini representing Minister of Environment Dr. Nasser Yassin, Ms. Yusra Saydani representing Beirut Mayor Mr. Abdullah Drouiche, members of the municipal council, Total Energies employees, and other volunteers.

During the event, the General Manager and representative of Total Energies in Lebanon unveiled a symbolic plaque representing the company’s dedication to beautifying and developing the Beirut Forest. The Beirut Forest, also known as the city's "green lung," has long been a unique place for both residents and visitors. It is noteworthy that this project not only enhances the aesthetic appearance of the park but also significantly contributes to improving air quality and boosting biodiversity. Each Leyland tree is expected to absorb about 20 to 50 kg of carbon dioxide annually during its growth, and these trees will provide a green buffer zone of 120 meters around the Beirut Forest, thereby mitigating the impacts of urbanization and protecting the biodiversity within the area.

These trees will also aid in climate regulation, water flow management, and air and water purification, while supporting pollinators and other species that contribute to the stability of the ecosystem. Mr. Adrien Bichonnet, the General Manager and representative of Total Energies in Lebanon, stated: "Alongside its mission to provide reliable and available energy for all, Total Energies has a long history of doing good and leading meaningful changes in Beirut and across Lebanon. This initiative perfectly aligns with our mission to enhance community well-being while preserving green spaces for future generations."
