Dr. Mustafa Al-Feki, a political thinker and former secretary to the late president, has sparked controversy with his statements about the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser. During an interview with journalist Ammar Al-Taqi, Al-Feki said, “Abdel Nasser used to drink at the home of the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat, especially after the 1967 defeat.” He added, “Gamal Abdel Nasser felt warmth at Anwar Sadat’s home on the Pyramids Road; after '67 he was very exhausted, so he used to go there.”
He continued, “Sadat’s wife was very virtuous, Mrs. Jehan Sadat, who would host him and prepare the white cheese that he loved to eat along with Abdel Hakim and Anwar Sadat, and he would have a simple drink.” In response to the journalist's question about the type of drink, Al-Feki said, “He would drink whatever wasn’t complicated; most leaders drink to cope with work pressures and escape from difficult circumstances.” He explained that Abdel Nasser’s regime suppressed freedoms and there was also a lack of democracy.
