The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu Ghait, stated that "the brutal war waged by the Israeli occupation against civilians in Gaza reflects a clear diabolical plan in its aims and objectives." He added in his speech at the 31st session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), held at the Arab League headquarters, that "the Israeli occupation does not aim to eliminate a movement as it claims, but rather to destroy an entire society, tear apart its fabric, and obliterate the possibility of life in the Gaza Strip for a long time to come," asserting that these are the goals of the Israeli operation that are no longer hidden from anyone.
He went on to say, "This diabolical plan has only one goal: to liquidate the Palestinian cause by separating the people from their land, either by destroying the possibility of life on this land or by forcibly displacing them through the use of military force. This will never happen." He indicated that Israeli military leaders do not hesitate to disclose these goals, pointing out that they "openly state there will be no Palestinian state in the future, and they repeatedly announce their renouncement of the Oslo Accord and what resulted from it in the establishment of the Palestinian Authority, asserting shamelessly that Palestinians will not have sovereignty over their land."
Abu Ghait affirmed that "this is an occupation that does not hide its face or beautify its objectives, but rather announces them with unprecedented audacity and brazenness. This is also a disregard for the peoples and nations that have expressed their position unequivocally in the recent vote in the United Nations General Assembly, where countries overwhelmingly sided with the right side of history, demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities and an end to the bloodbath and collective punishment that have no place in our world."
He continued, "Every new day of this war distances us from the two-state solution that was accepted by Palestinians, Arabs, and the entire world, except for Israel, which mistakenly believes it can inflict a second Nakba on the Palestinians. But even if it kills thousands of innocent civilians without guilt or crime, it will not kill their dream nor force them to renounce their right to land and life."
Abu Ghait once again called for an urgent ceasefire, saying, "From here, we reiterate our urgent call for a ceasefire to preserve the security and stability of the region, especially as we follow with concern the irresponsible acts that have become a source of threats in the Red Sea, with anticipated negative impacts on the economic conditions of Arab countries in the region."
