Title: Arrest of Turkish Woman After Criticizing Instagram Ban

Turkish media outlet "Haberturk" and other sources reported that a Turkish court ordered the arrest of a woman on Monday for inciting hatred and insulting the president after she criticized a ban imposed on the social media platform Instagram. Turkey blocked Instagram on August 2 for not complying with the country's "laws and regulations" and for not addressing sensitive public issues. The ban was lifted on Saturday after Meta Platforms, the owner of the platform, agreed to cooperate with the authorities to address the government’s concerns. The woman was among several passersby interviewed about their opinion on the ban in a video posted on YouTube last week while the platform was still blocked. She stated, "This is wrong. The president has no right to block Instagram at will," and criticized President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and those who supported the ban. Meta did not respond to a request for comment regarding the woman's arrest. Her arrest on Monday was ordered by a local court in Izmir, western Turkey, after the head of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, responsible for monitoring broadcasts in Turkey, criticized the airing of street interviews on social media, claiming they "influence public opinion."
