After the circulation of a video on social media showing two girls being drugged inside an elevator in Egypt and being abducted by two men, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior has clarified the controversy surrounding this video that instilled fear among families. The Ministry revealed in a statement that the man appearing in the video is the father of the girls, who is separated from their mother, who reported the alleged abduction. It was also confirmed that he left the country with one of his daughters of her own will.
The statement noted: "As part of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to uncover the circumstances of a video that was circulated on social media, showing two individuals escorting the girls from an elevator after drugging them, it was found that on December 13, the girls' mother (residing in the Nasr City area of Cairo) filed a report stating that her ex-husband (an accountant in one of the countries) and two others took one of the girls against her will, requesting documentation of this without providing any further details, citing family disputes between them as they had lived with their father after their separation until 2022, when she received custody of the girls, which was enforced thereafter, without presenting any evidence of this."
The statement continued: "Upon conducting investigations, it was determined that the children's father had recruited two individuals to commit the act as shown in the video, and that he had left the country on the same date of the incident with his daughter via Cairo International Airport of her own will, as confirmed by security camera footage."
The Ministry's statement further explained: "After legal measures were taken, it was possible to apprehend the two individuals, one of whom appeared in the video alongside the children's father, and the other was the driver of the vehicle used in the incident. Upon interrogation, they admitted to committing the act as described in agreement with the children's father for a financial sum. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the public prosecution is investigating."
